In March 1998, the NCF and the Chang Gung craniofacial medical team arrived in Vietnam for the first time to perform voluntary cleft lip and palate surgeries and also initiated the NCF's international cleft lip and palate assistance projects. The “Love Makes Whole” international mission team goes to developing countries lacking cleft lip and palate medical resources and each mission lasts for approximately a week. Local surgeons with a strong sense of vocation are welcomed to observe and learn during the mission period. It also allows the NCF to supervise the seed medical practitioner who has returned to their homeland after training in Taiwan, making a cleft mission more than just voluntary treatments. The cleft mission team is currently able to perform free surgeries on approximately 100 impoverished cleft lip and palate patients each year.
