Great love with Dr. Parit

I am Dr. Parit from India. I am currently working as Consultant Cleft and Maxillofacial Surgeon at one of the prestigious hospitals in Mumbai, India. I am also a Project Director of Swiss Cleft and Craniofacial Centre at same institute. I perform 40-50 cleft operations every month.

When I was a kid, I was good at physics and biology. I always wanted to become a Doctor or an Engineer. It is very difficult to become a Doctor in India. You have to be extraordinarily scholar to become doctor. I was good at study. 

However, I lost one mark in my university entrance exam. I had to take dentistry. I was so much depressed that day because I wanted to become a surgeon. But then, I came to know that there is a branch in dentistry which can make me surgeon- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. This news gave me new hope and I work very hard to get admission in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Gradually, I understand scope of maxillofacial surgery and came to know about specialty in Cleft and Craniofacial Surgery. I decided to make my career in same specialty because that was my interest from beginning. And now I am here. I am doing my favorite work.

I am highly impressed with medical care and technology at CGMH, Taiwan. I was able to learn all the latest technology, such as Virtual planning software, scanner, 3d Printer, navigation assisted surgery. Every case is meticulously planned with latest technology. 

I think the biggest challenge for me to apply what I learned in Taiwan is technology.  I should say that technology is the barrier for me to apply what I learned in Taiwan. We still do not have advanced technology like what you have in Taiwan. So, even after advance learning in Taiwan, I am not able to apply here.  

However, before going to Taiwan, I was always not confident to manage speech problem post cleft palate repair. I learn Furlow’s double opposing Z pasty from Prof. Lo at CGMH, Taiwan. After coming back, I have been doing many Furlow’s Surgery with good result. Hopefully, I could build India’s largest and advanced cleft centre in Mumbai in the future and provide comprehensive care to maximum possible cleft patients.
