▲Xiang Xiang who once was diagnosed as a heavy degree disability is graduating from junior high school. The photo shows how happy Xiang Xiang was as he got the graduation certificates.

Xiang Xiang was born with a cleft lip and palate. Xiang Xiang’s mom left few years after he was born. Xiang Xiang has been raised by his dad and grandma since then.
NCF staff was notified about Xiang Xiang’s case as he was eight. Xiang Xiang was prescribed by his doctor “complex problems with swallowing and speech difficulties.” Xiang Xiang had never eaten solid food even at ages of eight. His majority nutrition needs relied on tube feeding. Xiang Xiang always has his feeding tube attached which made him look like an Elephant so he has a nickname called Elephant Boy.
NCF contacted with Xiang Xiang’s school teacher and designed an Independence Program, trying to help Xiang Xiang to be independent and lead a fullful life. NCF arranged communications specialists, hoping Xiang Xiang would be able to express himself; lessons are like Sign Languages, Speech Therapy and Drawing.
Xiang Xiang now is graduating from junior high school. After practicing for years, Xiang Xiang is able to talk and walk to school without others’ accompany. “I can walk to school on my own. Xiang Xiang is so proud of himself.”
What NCF aims to is not merely a repair of physical defect but a restoration of a whole life.
