Fruitful Achievement of the Partnerships with Ministry of Foreign Affairs Taiwan and CGMH

Life in the Darkness

Bibi Laiba, a 6 years old girl, from a small village of the North Western Pakistan Kohat. Bibi suffered from the serious craniofacial deformity, called “Complex Facial Cleft” in the medical term. Bibi’s facial deformity always frightened other kids off and no one wanted to be friends with her. As a result of that, a deep bitterness evolved and pushed her to isolate from others. Neither family or relatives knew how to get close to Bibi due to her odd character and short temper.

Hope from Taiwan

In 2011, an invitation was made to Bibi by NCF, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Taiwan and the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (short for CGMH). Bibi was invited to Taiwan to have her face repaired at CGMH which has the top craniofacial treatment techniques. Accompanied by mother and uncle, Bibi flew to Taiwan for the first reconstructive surgery. The entire treatment included the after surgery recovery process lasted for 2 months. The result was great, the width of her cleft had been successfully reduced from 4 cm to 1.5 cm and her eyes are much more symmetry. The grossly redundant tissue grown above the cleft is replaced with the healthy one and the gap had been successfully mended. One year after the first surgery, Bibi returned to Taiwan having the milder facial shap-ing to curve more natural facial feature .

The surgery not only changed Bibi’s appearance but restored her whole life.  Kids no longer feel Bibi has any difference to them, which opens Bibi’s heart allowing others to step in . She can now enjoy the life as normal kids do, she loves going to school and playing with others.

Thankfulness

Bibi and her parents would especially give their thanks to NCF, the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taiwan. The cooperation fulfilled their dream.      Besides, the local mosque in Taiwan also committed a great effort to arrange the free Halal meals. With their love and care, Bibi could have successful recovery after the surgeries. Bibi’s parents said that they will never forget whatever kindness they received in Taiwan which will be kept in their hearts forever.
