Li , a 4 months old cleft lip and palate patient, is from a low socially economically family. Li’s family experienced profound worry as they learned that the expected baby was born with a cleft lip and palate.

However, as OMFH told Li’s family about NCF’s coming for free surgery, their concerns were eased. Li’s families were very happy with the result of lip operation and OMFH will continue the follow-up for palate surgery.

Ms Chen, a nurse of OMFH, once came to Taiwan for 2 months nursing training at the Craniofacial Center of CGMH. Ms Chen shared that “ Except for the physical defects, cleft patients in Vietnam usually suffer from tremendous of problems, including poverty, geographical isolation, social discrimination, lack of cleft education, possibilities of unqualified surgeries, etc…”

Each year, there are 1 in 500 babies in Vietnam born with a cleft lip and/or cleft palate. NCF is devoted to these patients for a better life. NCF provides scholarships for local medical practitioners to Taiwan for cleft treatment training, also connects the local resources to help cleft children with free cleft lip and palate surgeries.
